Programs | THE BRIDGEAn orientation for those beginning the Dharma Path
Before beginning the Dharma Path, many of us carry questions — about what a spiritual path really is, about faith, about working with a teacher, about what it means to belong to a community. The Bridge is a gentle place to meet them. The Dharma Path is the second of our three paths of practice, where we deepen our understanding of the nature of reality and begin to align our lives with it. What follows is meant to orient and encourage you as you consider that step

As part of FCM’s Walking the Bodhisattva Path segment of the Dharma Path, an in-depth yearlong course (Intensive) is offered every three years to study Shantideva’s profound text, “The Way of the Bodhisattva.” A second yearlong course is “Lojong: The Seven Points of Mind Training.” These mind trainings comprise 59 pithy, easily memorized ‘maxims’ that focus on how the Awakened Mind of an enlightened being can beneficially manifest in all the activities of our daily lives. Thầy taught that we do not practice alone. “The next Buddha,” he said, “may be a community — a Sangha practicing understanding and loving-kindness.” A community holds us when our own practice falters, reflects us back to ourselves, and makes the path walkable. Belonging to a Sangha is itself a practice. The inclusion of “Community” in our name is very intentional. Given the sense of dis-connection in so many aspects of our culture today, many people find that community (we also call that "Sangha" in our tradition) is a very important and meaningful part of their experience at FCM. Both the formal practice opportunities, as well as the opportunity for informal 'daily life' practice and connection with friends on the same spiritual path, enrich and support the process of growth and transformation. Faith here is not blind but aconfidence grounded in direct experience — trust that the path bears fruit, confirmed a little more each time we practice. We are invited not to believe, but to come and see for ourselves. Learn More Ready to begin? After the Bridge and the self-paced Four Thoughts course, you are warmly welcome to explore the Dharma Path. Return to Dharma Path Programs Page |
