Programs | FCM Study and Practice Curriculum1. Beginning Your Practice: The Mindful Living PathWe begin our spiritual development by first "cleaning the bowl": calming and clearing our minds, healing old emotional wounds that still cause us suffering, and learning how to effectively create the causes and conditions for living a happy and more meaningful life. The introductory classes, workshops and retreats in FCM's Mindful Living Path (MLP) are designed to help you learn the essential teachings and practices of mindfulness and meditation. Evening and Saturday classes, weekend retreats, and online study programs are offered to support bringing the teachings and practices into your life in a way that is relevant, accessible and meaningful for your life. The following are the core programs for the Mindful Living Path. The programs are complimentary, thus you can enter this path in any of the four areas, subject to prerequisites that apply in a few of the programs. Grounding and Nourishing the MindWe start by grounding our minds in the present moment, helping us begin to break free from habitual thought patterns and emotional reactivity. With this foundation, we can then direct the energy of mindfulness toward observing the thoughts and mind-states that arise within. This practice lays the groundwork for a life of well-being and marks the first step on the Buddhist path of healing, transformation, and liberation. Introduction to Mindfulness and Meditation | 4-Week ClassDo you live in your thoughts about the past or worries about the future? Do your emotions often cause stress and confusion? Do you get carried away by dramas. Introduction to Mindfulness and Meditation is a four-week course designed to support the practice of mindfulness, helping us develop the skills and attention to be fully present to our lives in the present moment, and to touch each moment deeply. It is intended for those new to mindfulness and meditation, as well as for those who want to review the basics and establish a more consistent daily mindfulness and meditation practice. The course includes basic instruction as well as an exploration of practical ways to bring mindfulness into daily activities. Grounding and Nourishing the Mind | 5-Week Immersion ProgramThis 5-week program introduces mindfulness practices from Thich Nhat Hanh and the Buddhist tradition to cultivate a grounded, joyful mind and a foundation for well-being. Participants will engage in Dharma talks, Q&A sessions, guided meditations, bi-weekly check-ins, and a Day of Mindfulness. These teachings focus on anchoring the mind in present-moment experience, reducing emotional reactivity, and fostering positive mental states. This immersive experience is designed to support healing, transformation, and liberation by integrating mindfulness into daily life. Watching the Mind | 5-Week Immersion ProgramThis 5-week program focuses on cultivating mindful awareness of thoughts and emotions, a vital skill for transforming the mind and reducing identification with mental content. Drawing on teachings from Thich Nhat Hanh and the Buddhist tradition, participants will explore how to observe and work with the mental processes shaping their experiences. Through Dharma talks, Q&A sessions, guided meditations, written instructions, bi-weekly check-ins, and a Day of Mindfulness, this immersive program offers practical tools to transform habitual patterns and deepen mindfulness, supporting healing, transformation, and liberation on the Buddhist path. (Prerequisite: Grounding and Nourishing the Mind | 5-Week Immersion) The Miracle of Mindfulness | Weekend RetreatIn this two-day retreat, participants will explore mindfulness and meditation practices to ground and nourish the body and mind. Through guided instruction, seated and walking meditation, deep relaxation, and various mindfulness exercises, attendees will settle into the present moment, and cultivate presence, peace, and awareness. Emphasis is placed on disconnecting from distractions, including digital devices, in a mostly silent environment. Participants will learn to nourish their well-being, develop inner calm, and appreciate the simple joy of being alive. Living with Intention: Practicing with the Four Nutriments | 8-Week Intensive Study ProgramThis intensive explores the Buddha’s teachings on the Four Nutriments as a guide for intentional living. Participants will learn how mindful consumption of edible food, sensory input, volition, and consciousness shapes physical and mental wellbeing. Through study, reflection, and practice, we will bring awareness to our daily choices and habit energies, cultivating actions that align with our deepest values. By focusing on wholesome consumption, we can reduce harm, nurture happiness, and live with greater harmony and purpose—benefiting both ourselves and others. Opening the HeartIn the Buddhist tradition, the path of the heart is equally practiced with the path of mindfulness, meditation and wisdom to create the basis for happiness and wellbeing. The Four Immeasurables—loving-kindness, compassion, sympathetic joy, and equanimity—offer profound teachings and practices for cultivating an open, kind, and compassionate heart toward ourselves and others.

Setting Vows and Intentions | WorkshopThis workshop explores the essential elements of aspiration, vows, and intention as guides for living an authentic, purposeful life. Together, they provide direction, strengthen resolve during challenges, and align our choices with our core values. Through reflection and practice, participants will clarify these elements and learn to integrate them into daily life.
