Compassionate Action is Not Easy: Wise versus Idiot Compassion

In this practice of the heart, teacher Fred Eppsteiner challenges practitioners to look deeply at the response to suffering.  He cautions that compassion requires more than empathy, "I feel your suffering."  Wise compassion employs the "eye of wisdom" represented in the palm of the hand of Avalokitesvara signifying the presence of discernment and non-attachment to outcome.  The instruction is to pause and act from skillfulness setting aside the ego and emotional overwhelm.
