A Three-Day Online Retreat for FCM Members & Non-Members
Thursday, July 23, 7:00 PM
through
Sunday, July 26, 12:00 PM
The Buddhist path teaches that true happiness comes about through transforming our mind and its mind states. Essential for our transformation is developing the Perfection of Patience, which allows a deep and profound acceptance of ‘what is’. Founded on a wise and clear understanding of causes and conditions, patience is the unrivaled antidote for neutralizing and preventing us from succumbing to aversive mind states such as anger and all of anger’s related afflictions, including frustration, irritation, disappointment, confusion, and more. With the cultivation of patience, the seeds of love, understanding, and joy have the possibility to flower.
In this three-day on-line retreat, we will study and practice the Buddhist teachings on cultivating the Perfection of Patience. Dharma talks, guided meditations, experiential exercises and group dialogues will help participants nourish the aspiration to cultivate patience, clearly see and understand the roots of and suffering caused by aversive mind states, and cultivate “right view” and discipline to support the development of patience and acceptance in their lives. This retreat is open to both FCM members and nonmembers.
The retreat registration fee is $75. The fee covers administrative, facility and incidental expenses connected to the retreat, but does not include any offerings to the teacher. Participants will have an opportunity to make an offering for the teachings at the conclusion of the retreat. A limited number of Retreat Scholarships are available. Please click here to see FCM’s Retreat Scholarship Policy and for an Application, which needs to be submitted prior to the registration deadline for this retreat.
The retreat begins on Thursday evening, July 23 at 7:00 pm and ends on Sunday, June 26 at noon. We ask that participants plan to participate in the entire retreat, and to do so with the same energy of commitment and dedication as one would bring to an in-person residential retreat. We will be sending you a retreat schedule to follow and practice guidelines to help you create conditions in your home to support your retreat.
The retreat will include 3-4 Practice Sessions for meditation daily, Dharma talks and instruction, meetings with Fred, and group sharing, along with "off line" time for meals & rest, outdoor walking, personal practice, and time to take care of essential household tasks and responsibilities.
Please note that your registration does not guarantee acceptance into the retreat. Once registration has closed, all who registered will be considered for acceptance into the retreat. You will be notified if you have been accepted into the retreat within a few days of the closing of registration.
The retreat registrar will be sending additional information to accepted registrants before the retreat including daily schedules, Zoom instructions and suggestions to help prepare you for a meaningful retreat experience from your home.
Registration will close on July 4.
