Mindfulness Path Fall Intensive

Happiness and Solidity in Daily Life:

The Foundation Practices of the Plum Village Tradition

The genius of Thich Nhat Hanh (Thay) is his ability to create a range of mindfulness practices that allow an individual’s healing and transformation to occur within the context of their everyday life. These practices are succinctly outlined and explained in his book entitled simply, Happiness: Essential Mindfulness Practices. There are simple practices to do upon arising in the morning, eating breakfast, talking on the telephone or communicating with others (including children). There are also other practices that deal with the body, personal relationships, communication, society and self-healing.

With this book as the primary text/manual for the Intensive, participants will develop direct experience and competency to be able to live a mindful and harmonious life whatever the external circumstance.  Every week of the Intensive will bring a different focus for practice, as we use these accessible tools to create the foundation for our personal and interpersonal transformation.

Persons new to these teachings from the Plum Village tradition will benefit from this opportunity to incorporate these life-changing practices into their lives. Persons already familiar with this tradition will benefit from this opportunity to go more deeply into these practices with increased familiarity.

In this Intensive phone consultations with participants will be provided by senior (seasoned) members of the FCM community. Fred has chosen these persons based on the stability of their practice and their capacity to intelligently and compassionately support and guide the practice of others, including their peers. During the Intensive, Fred will be offering Dharma talks on a conference call open to all participants that will clearly explain the practices and be available to answer questions.

Commitments for each Intensive participant:

1)  The commitment to a minimum of thirty minutes of daily formal mindfulness practice.

2)  The commitment to attend all the practice periods of their sangha during the ten weeks, as possible.

3)  The commitment to attend a bi-weekly support/discussion gathering of other sangha members participating in the Intensive (if some are living in your area) or by phone conferencing.

4)  The commitment to have phone consultations during the Intensive with an assigned peer mentor.

5)  The commitment to read any texts that will be recommended to participants.

6)  The commitment to be present for group conference calls with Fred.

For this practice Intensive, there is a suggested donation of $100. This is a suggested donation and participants are free to donate more or less, depending on their individual practice of Dana and their financial situation. Please note that participation in this Intensive is only open to members of the Florida Community of Mindfulness (FCM). While participation in our local sanghas and Days of Mindfulness is open to everyone, membership in FCM is for persons wanting to deepen their practice of living an awakened life by being part of a dedicated practice community, having a direct relationship with a Dharma teacher, and participating in practice opportunities such as Intensives and longer retreats. More information about membership can be found on this website.

This intensive will begin in early October and end mid-December. Dharma texts to read, schedule of phone consultations and phone conference calls will be announced once registration has been completed. As the number of participants in this Intensive is limited, please complete the process by September 9th.
