In the Buddhist tradition, the passing of an old year and the beginning of a new one is celebrated in a sacred manner. We take stock of the past year, our life and relationships, our activities and endeavors, and make a sincere inventory of the actions of our body, speech and mind. Then, symbolically freeing ourselves from the baggage of the past year, we start the New Year with renewed focus, motivation and inspiration. Rather than celebrating the New Year by numbing and clouding the mind, we renew our commitment to awaken to the richness and beauty of life’s fullest potential. Truly, we begin anew.

The Florida Community of Mindfulness invites you to share this New Year's celebration with us on January 1st at 4 pm. We will be meeting in Tampa at the FCM Practice Center, which is located at 6501 N. Nebraska Avenue, Tampa, FL 33604.

Beginning at 4 PM, we will have sitting and walking meditation.  This will be followed by guided meditations and rituals to acknowledge the passing of the year, to facilitate a "letting go" of the past, to renew ourselves in the present, and to focus our intentions for the future. Afterwards, we invite you to join us for drinks (non-alcoholic), light refreshments, and warm fellowship. We also warmly invite spouses, significant others, and children to join us for the meditation and ceremonies or to join us for the refreshments afterwards.

If you are planning to attend, please bring a vegetarian "finger food" (sweet or savory) to share as a light snack. Also, bring whatever utensils are needed to cut and serve your particular dish. The FCM sangha will be providing plates, utensils, cups, drinks, etc. Please take any remainders of your dish with you when you leave.
