The FCM sangha at the Tampa Practice Center (meditation community) was initially founded in 1997 by four people who had attended a Thich Nhat Hanh retreat in Key West. It met once a week in rented yoga studio space for silent meditation, mindfulness practice and Buddhist teachings. Fred Eppsteiner became the group’s teacher after he moved to the area in 2005.
In 2012, FCM acquired its own Practice Center on Nebraska Avenue, in northern Seminole Heights, Tampa. We have worked as a community to transform what had been a deteriorating and underutilized church property into a thriving Practice Center and educational facility that has become the home for the entire FCM community.
The FCM Tampa Practice Center features a large meditation hall upstairs and a meeting space and kitchen downstairs for community activities. Across from the meditation hall is an education building, including classrooms for FCM’s Mindfulness Institute, a children’s area, and an excellent Buddhist library. We are in the process of landscaping the Practice Center, to include a walking meditation garden, ponds and beautiful tropical vegetation. It is our intention that FCM’s Tampa Practice Center will be an oasis of beauty, serenity and inspiration for all.
The FCM Tampa Practice Center is located in north Seminole Heights at 6501 N. Nebraska Avenue, Tampa, FL 33604 (between Hillsborough and Sligh). Turn east on Lambright off of Nebraska, then make immediate left into the parking lot. Map
