Days of mindfulness are conducted typically as silent mini-retreats to encourage looking within, paying attention to our breath, and being mindful of the present moment. They provide an opportunity to spend an extended time in mindfulness, to practice sitting and walking meditation, enjoy nature, hear a Dharma talk and/or participate in a discussion. Sometimes, there is a longer opportunity to have questions answered, in an "Open Forum" format with our teacher.
Days of mindfulness (whether full days or half) provide time to relax, renew ourselves in nature, and nourish the seeds of happiness and true purpose within us. Attending such days supports an individual’s personal meditation experience with practice, teachings, deep listening and deep sharing. Participation also fosters a more committed daily practice and regular attendance at local sangha meetings.
Open to all, Days of Mindfulness are scheduled on one weekend day each month in Naples and Tampa, and occasionally in other Florida locations.
A typical full day of mindfulness schedule follows this format:
9 am – Sitting and walking meditation
11 am – Dharma talk and discussion
12:30 pm – Lunch and lazy time; individual practice
2 pm - Guided meditation/deep relaxation
2:30 pm – Mindful movements
3 pm – Meditation
3:20 pm – Closing circle: deep sharing and deep listening
4 pm – Day of mindfulness ends.
Half Days of Mindfulness are from 9:00 am to 12;30 pm and include sitting and walking meditation, guided meditations, and a talk and discussion lead by a senior FCM member. The talks center around themes that support the current Path of Awakening.
